Aug. 5-6, 2017: Back to the Island

UPDATE: The starting time for this trip has changed. We are now meeting at 10 a.m. at Susquehanna Outdoor Adventures, and expect to be on the water at Test Track Park by 11:30 a.m.

Island Adventure:  We had so much fun on our June trip to the Susquehanna Outdoor Adventures Island, one of our paddlers is organizing a return visit!

It’s an eight-mile paddle from Berwick to Bloomsburg, past old canal walls, an eagles’ nest, and, lately, a lot of deer and fawns.

This time, however, it’s going to be BYOB.

Here’s the message from Lerch, our Fearless Leader on this journey:

Don’t have a kayak? No problem as rentals are available for only $25 for the weekend thanks to the generosity of Susquehanna Adventures owner Chris Ehmer and the rest of his team! He has also been kind enough to provide us with shuttle services and tent sites at $35 each. All said and done its $60 to rent a kayak and camp for the weekend or $35 if you bring your own boat. We will collect money for the campsites, shuttling, and rentals when we meet Saturday morning. Please let me know ahead of time if you need to rent a kayak so I can give Chris an estimate!

Kids camp free, and if you aren’t camping out there will be a discounted rate for the shuttle only.

We will be meeting at 10 a.m. at Susquehanna Outdoor Adventures back lot parking area, 2558 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, PA 17815 to load boats and prepare to shuttle up river. I encourage everyone to stop in at Chris’ café restaurant on site for coffee and breakfast sandwiches while we get everything together! We will then be kayaking 8 miles (roughly 3-5 hours) to the Susquehanna Outdoor Adventures Island, where we will be camping out. No worries on packing camping gear in your kayaks — Chris will use his motor boat to shuttle our gear, beer, coolers, etc. over for us. Upon reaching the island, Chris will have an all-you-can-eat BBQ lunch generously awaiting us for $15 per person! Feel free to pack your own food as well, but you will be missing out! To spice things up even more, Jack and the rest of the Gypsy Funk Squad will be bringing a bit of island funk to our little piece of paradise! Check out some of their music below!

No worries if you can’t spend the night (although it’s going to be an amazing time). The meetup point as well as your cars is just ashore of the island, so you are free to depart whenever you’re ready. If you do decide to stay over, there’s bound to be more fun, campfires, and a pancake breakfast for Sunday morning in store for you! Chris will be back on the island in the morning to shuttle our gear back and arrange for a shuttle for us to continue with another leg of the river if anyone wishes to do so (you know I’m up for it!).

Please feel free to message me with any questions or concerns.

I look forward to seeing some familiar faces and hopefully some new friends! As always, thanks for reading this far!
